Queens Community College Trip Reflection

On March 20, 2013, Both Cisco and Web Design classes joined together as we went to the Queens Borough Community College. At the College, we were greeted by the chairman of engineering technology, Professor Asser and the Associate Chairman of engineering technology, Professor Stigliano. We got to view some of the rooms and stuff they used in classrooms. One example was a 3D printer in which was used to make computer chips. A student there showed us how it worked and described to us how long it takes depending on the design they are working on. These chips were then programmed to function different depending on what they were made for. We also met Professor Nandar, who taught robotics. He showed us how to give a robot a basic command to move at different speeds and turn. We also got to see a video that showed us an example of a robot being programmed to go through a maze. It turned out to be pretty simple actually, because all you needed to do was figure out the path, then break it down to further details and translate it to robotic language by inputting the codes.

Honestly this is the first time I've got to see a community college in person. Normally I see it differently in videos or movies, but this experience was better. I got to learn some of the stuff they taught there and I also got to witness some of the tools they use in rooms. At first I expected to see more students at the College because it seemed empty, but that's probably because they were in class. Later on more students started appearing. My expectations of the trip was better. Like I previously said, I got to learn things and saw students using the tools in the rooms. College food is WAY better than school food by far. I think something that can be done better for the College is that if they can upgrade some of the stuff they use. The computers look slightly old but I did see that they were moving in new computers in the robotics room. In my next college trip, I would like to see more rooms in other subjects.

Refer to the exhibit. Which value will be configured for Default Gateway of the Local Area Connection?

A.10.0.0.0
B.10.0.0.254
C.192.223.129.0
D.192.223.129.254

The answer is B. The IP address has to be in the same network with the configured host's IP address and not is the network or broadcast address.

Which command is used to see the path taken by packets across an IP network?

A. show ip route
B. show route
C. traceroute
D. trace ip route

The following answers are incorrect, here are the reasons why;

show ip route- Is used for when you need to know the current state of the routing table.

show route- This is no command, the closest command in terms of similar usage of the words is "show route-map" but that is an actual command and has no other similarity besides the name being close.

trace ip route- This is no command either.

The correct answer was traceroute. The definition is already in the question.

Why is it important to have a CTE Expo?

Having a CTE Expo means a lot. It helps newcomers or people that are going to consider joining Cisco understand the basics of what Cisco will be. The strong bond between newcomers and people that are nearly done just impressed me on the friday of february on the 8th of 2013. People communicated with each other very well. I myself also had some small bondings with the students that had some troubles understanding what Cisco would have for them.

My expectations for the CTE Expo went far better than expected. I had thoughts of stuttering and getting nervous in front of teachers but as time flied, the interviews were short and the questions asked were fairly easy. I saw some familiar faces and had some fun getting to give small lectures about Cisco. If there were another CTE Expo, I wouldn't really do anything different except for improvising on my work. My team's project was not complete and had to be slightly rushed due to short time. We only had 3-4 days to do so.

In a CTE Expo, I would've liked it if there were more space and all the other subjects stayed in one place. Perhaps a bigger room next time. It would help keep everyone organized and satisfied. That way all students may be able to go in at once and the Expo can be held longer.  I don't know about the others, but overall, I enjoyed my time at the CTE Expo last Friday. I am looking forward to the next one and hopefully it will be better.

Reflection of Diagnostic Test

After taking an exam today in Cisco, I am barely satisfied with the grade I received. I didn't understand some questions of course. With my result of a 43%(53/127), I can review my mistakes and learn from them as well. Luckily this was only a Diagnostic. This grade also tells me that I at least have the capability of answering some of the questions correctly and that I understand them. For example, one of the questions asked what the P represented at the beginning of a topology entry. I misunderstood and thought it meant passive since in another question I saw codes in which one of them said "P- Passive" But I learned from my mistakes and also learned something new today.

Smart Goals

Specific: I know exactly what grade I want for this course, I want to get at least an 85+.

Measurable: Jupiter Grades will notify me if I'm passing with the grade I want or not.

Attainable: I know I can get to class every morning on time and take notes to be able to study them at home. I also have the desire to learn.

Realistic: It will be hard for me not to get distracted with video games or my friends calling me on Skype, but I just have to focus and get my work done on time.

Timely: I know that I need to work hard for this semester to get the grade I want and pass.
